US Spec Yachts: What Are They & Why You Should or Should Not Buy One.

US Spec yachts

What is a US Spec yacht, why do they cost more and are the a neccessity?

If you’re seeking to buy a yacht, built by a European manufacturer; say Azimut, Princess, Sunseeker, Fairline, Monte Carlo, and so on, you may see some listings stating that the yacht is US Spec, which essentially means it’s a European manufacturer produced yachts with US components.

Electrical systems are different in Europe than they are in the United States, but the different systems are typically bridged by a component called a converter. Gel coats on the hull, light fixturers, engine components, hoses, and more, become more expensive and time consuming to purchase and supply in a market like the US.

There are fewer US spec yachts available which drive up their price, so it more or less presents the question of would you rather pay a premium upfront or pay more throughout your course of ownership.

While it’s desirable, I highly recommend not to make a US spec yacht a necessity by any means, as the prevalence of European built yachts within the US is so prevalent, that there are much better deals to be had than buying US spec, but it all depends on your specific situation.

If you are deadset on US Spec, here’s a few!

2016 Azimut Motoryacht US Spec 84 feet with HMY Yachts for $3,850,000 = Recent sale is much below listed price

2018 Lagoon 630 Motor Yacht Power Catamaran for sale asking $2,395,000 through NG Yachting

2010 Pershing 80 listed for sale $2,899,000 through Bluewater Yacht Sales

If you haven’t obtained the recent sales for the yacht you’re interested in purchasing, I highly encourage you do so by sending me an email at cm@theyachthunter.com. It’s my mission to help both first time and experienced yacht purchasers buy the best yachts at the lowest price.
